Public Information and Education Committee

Community resources for members
IAAP is committed to helping its members educate the general public about the aggregates industry and its importance in our everyday lives.  We do this by:
  • supporting the Public Information and Education (PIE) Committee
  • sponsoring or participating in many educational events around the State
  • developing and distributing educational materials relating to earth science, geology, mine reclamation, and the many uses for products made from minerals, crushed stone, sand and gravel.
The PIE Committee:
  • educates the public about the aggregates industry
  • encourages and supports IAAP member’s educational efforts during classroom visits, school tours and open house events at their mining operations
  • develops and presents the annual IAAP Illinois Teachers Workshop: Rocks, Minerals & Mining in Today's Society
  • administers the IAAP’s Let's Rock Illinois careers in the Illinois mining industry program, Community Relations Award program, and Russ Brielman Teaching Enhancement Grant
PIE Committee membership includes:
  • Aggregate Producer members (large, medium and small companies in Illinois and neighboring states)
  • Associate members
  • Agency representatives (IDNR, ISGS, etc.)
  • Educational institution representatives (colleges, museums, etc.)
