Sustainability

Sustainability Committee
It has been said that everything our communities need, including our food, clothing, shelter, energy and transportation is either mined or grown. Mining rocks and minerals provides us with the quality of life we enjoy today.  Mining companies recognize mined materials are an abundant but non-renewable resource, so they must be sustainably developed.
IAAP is committed to helping its members understand potential positive aspects of the sustainability movement for our industry that may result in opportunities for:
  • cost savings,
  • risk reduction,
  • attraction and retention of a new generation of employees,
  • strengthening your social contract with the communities in which you operate, and
  • making a positive contribution to the environment.
Integrating long term sustainable initiatives into the business decision-making process will help drive both business management and product innovation.  Businesses in the forefront of sustainability look beyond current regulatory and policy directives and instead focus on technology, information, and new forms of value creation to drive innovation and create a competitive advantage.
