  • E-Ticketing in Illinois:  The Journey to Construction Materials Digitization ~ Brandon Hundley (HaulHub Technologies)
The advantages of e-Ticketing are apparent to state transportation agencies and the industry and all stakeholders agree that removing paper helps streamline payments, enables easier quantity tracking and reconciliation, and improves job site safety by removing the human element out of the equation of paper transfer in high-risk construction environments. The presentation will focus on the evolution of e-Ticketing, provide insight about how e-Ticketing implementations are going across the US, and in Illinois with various transportation authorities, and some of the practical challenges that need to be addressed before widespread adoption at scale.

Convention topics

  • Building Cathedrals: The Power of Purpose ~ Greg Coker (keynote address)
  • Requirements & Limitations of the Types of MSHA Citations and Orders ~ Nick Scala (Conn Maciel Carey)
    While most operators know how to respond to an inspector issuing 104(A) citations, what happens when the inspector issues a 104(B) or 107(A) or 104(D)? Each citation and order issued by MSHA either requires or prohibits some action from an operator, whether the production operator or independent contractor. Sometimes, a single order mandates action or inaction by both parties. This presentation will review MSHA’s available citations and orders, with an emphasis on the appropriate reaction by operators to prevent further enforcement and safeguard contest rights.
    During this presentation, participants will learn about:
    • Available citations and orders that can be issued by MSHA inspectors;
    • How to identify what action should be taken, or what action is prohibited, depending on the citation/order issued; and
    • How to preserve an operator’s contest rights while complying with MSHA issuances.
  • Fugitive Dust Plans (Word document) ~ Environmental Committee Members
    A panel of aggregate producers will discuss when and where a Fugitive Dust Plan is required, review a sample fugitive dust plan, and a template for aggregate producers to use.
  • Solving Conveyor Application Problems ~ Garrett Ashburn (Rock Machinery) & Michael Hesslau (Flexco)
    Solving belt tracking issues on manual style take-up conveyors
    Conveyor Housekeeping 101 - Understanding the importance Sealing and Cleaning
    Recognizing conveyor danger zones
    Understanding Conveyor Components. When and where to use the different types and options.
    Conveyor Maintenance best practices. What to look for when a conveyor is running and not running.
  • Demystifying Sustainability and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG): Risks, Opportunities and a Roadmap for the Aggregate Industry (Contact Susan Brodie to request a copy of this presentation) ~ Susan Brodie and Mark Willobee (Geosyntec Consultants)
    Like companies in many industries, aggregate producers are grappling with what the quickly evolving sustainability and ESG landscape means for their operations, employees, investors, communities, and customers. This session will demystify sustainability and ESG by explaining terms like net zero and carbon neutrality, circular economy, embodied carbon, voluntary climate-related disclosure, environmental justice, greenwashing, and scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. We’ll also explore environmental product declarations, an emerging trend for aggregate producers that presents both challenges and opportunities for public works projects. The speakers will wrap the session up by presenting a roadmap companies can follow to develop a sustainability and ESG strategy that suits their company’s particular needs.
