MSHA’s Priority Issues and Safety Concerns in Illinois – Pat Kirk, MSHA Peru Field Office Supervisor, will address MSHA initiatives including powered haulage and air compressor inspections as well as most common citations in Illinois.

Reasonable Suspicion Supervisor Training in the Era of Marijuana at Work - William J. Judge, Drug Screening Compliance Institute, helps you understand how to recognize and document impairment in this new era of employment. Qualifies for Certificate of Completion for supervisors and satisfies DOT requirements that employers provide training to all persons who supervise drivers subject to the regulations, in accordance with §382.603. Drug Screening Compliance Institute (DSCI) is recognized by SHRM to offer SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP professional development credits (PDCs). This presentation is valid for 1 PDC toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification.

Behaviors that Lead to Accidents – Dave Anderson, Anderson 360 Solutions, believes that people are surprised when accidents occur, but in reality, accidents are preventable. A safety culture in the workplace involves everyone. Creating pro-active attitudes, safe work practices and setting specific goals with the team is the foundation to eliminating accidents. The lack of identifying hazardous conditions and the mistakes one take with their behaviors are leading factors in all accidents. Why does this happen? Where is the commitment? What does it really take to make a difference?
This session will teach us to better understand how the brain functions and why people make the choices they do and how we can better identify hazardous conditions and foster better decision making skills. Real life accidents and fatalities will be discussed and reviewed as a part of this training. Investigation photos and pictures shown will help remind all of us why Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility!

Lime in the Eye: Protecting Your Vision and Preventing a Life-Changing Accident - Dale Basler, a native of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, recounts the story of suffering a life-changing accident in May of 1978 while performing maintenance at Mississippi Lime.   When he opening a pneumatic transfer line to the bagging plant, hydrated lime inundated his face and eyes causing alkaline burns and eye cornea scaring.  For 2 years he was unable to work and enjoy life in the same way.  With more than 40 years of experience in mining, Dale continues working at Mississippi Lime and brings his eye safety at work and home message to others in the industry.
